About Us

The Horti House is transforming houseplant wholesale in the UK by offering a fast and simple way to buy quality British plants directly from the grower. Set up by Double H Nurseries, a British grower with over 60 years of experience, the vision is to create a one stop shop for indoor plants from British growers.

We specialise in supplying garden centres, florists, retailers and hospitality venues across the UK.

British Grown

Buying directly from UK based growers means no import, phyto or APHA inspection costs. Also, no more long lead times for plants to be delivered from the Netherlands. This allows you to improve freshness and availability by ordering smaller quantities more frequently.

The Horti House offers easy online ordering, small minimum order quantities and fast delivery for a range of flowering and foliage indoor plants, all grown in Britain using peat free media.

Sustainability

Sustainability is very important to us at The Horti House. Growing plants in the UK minimises the ‘transport miles’ and our growers use sustainable growing techniques such as using peat free growing media, integrated pest management, LED lighting and biomass boilers for heating.

Our Growers

Double H Logo

Founded in 1961 by Hugh Stevenson and Helmut Gimmler, Double H Nurseries now has over 60 years of growing experience. The family business has grown to be one of the UK’s largest producers of houseplants, including phalaenopsis orchids.

The nursery is based on the south coast of England, in the New Forest, with plenty of sunshine hours to help grow happy plants! Heating is supplied from their biomass boiler, which has almost eliminated the need for gas, and they are currently investing in LED lighting to significantly reduce the amount of electricity used. Rainwater is collected in a huge reservoir and used for irrigation and pesticide usage is kept to a minimum by using an Integrated Pest Management approach with the use of bio controls.

Bury Lane Logo
A truly independent, family-run business growing cut flowers such as oriental lilies, peonies and agapanthus during the summer months for sale in our shop and throughout the UK. We also grow thousands of houseplants in the large glasshouses on site at Bury Lane in Melbourn on the borders of Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.

As well as biomass heating, a solar farm for electricity we don’t use any peat in our nursery, all our plants are grown in a recycled peat free medium.
Established in 1983, Bury Lane is still a family run business that has expanded over the years to include a farm shop, garden centre and pick your own strawberries.
